GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Discovery Center of Idaho’s (DCI) mission is to inspire lifelong interest and learning in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). DCI serves its mission by developing, maintaining, and presenting interactive science exhibits as well as providing on- and off-site educational programs designed for multi-generational audiences. The Center serves over 100,000 visitors annually with a staff of 20 paid professionals and over one hundred volunteers.
The Visitor Services Manager assists in helping us fulfil our mission by being responsible for meeting all revenue, profitability and quality goals including sales for admissions, membership, and store. They ensure efficient operations and maintains high production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
WHY THE VISITOR SERVICES MANAGER IS IMPORTANT: The Visitor Services Team is the initial face for 100,000 visitors and growing and they facilitate nearly 60% of DCI’s earned income. DCI’s Visitor Services Manager will help us cultivate and nurture our Visitor Services Team to ensure that they are happy and effective at providing the best visitor services for those 100,000 visitors and help us realize our goals for 60% of our earned income.
TYPES OF JOBS YOU MAY HAVE HAD BEFORE: ● Management of a restaurant or retail store ● Non-profit science center or museum management ● Hotel management ● Boutique/shop management
DAILY DUTIES: ● Coordinate all Visitor Services programs ● Manage consistency and quality of visitor relations ● Cultivate, train, manage, schedule, and motivate Visitor Services Team of 5-10 staff and 15+ volunteers ● Work with staff to set strategic goals for the Visitor Services Team that reflect DCI’s initiatives ● Daily sales reporting and daily deposits ● Work with other departments to ensure success with their events ● Create and execute plans for sales, profit, and staff development ● Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient work environment ● Special tasks and maintenance as needed ● Science Store Maintenance & Growth ● Bi-Monthly Science Store Inventory & analysis on product success/non-success ● Re-ordering and inputting new merchandise

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: ● Experience with point-of-sales systems, including database management and reporting ● Experience with cash handling procedures ● Experience with managing a team of employees ● Experience with store sales and inventory procedures
