Job Title: Program Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Key Accountabilities and Job Summary:
- Plan, implement, maintain, and evaluate all tuition-based offerings for kids and adults.
- Work with finance team to create and review annual education budget.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate teaching-writers hired for classes, camps, workshops, and writer-in-residence programs.
- Manage registration for education classes.
- Assist marketing/communications staff to promote Writers in the Schools (WITS), camps, and adult workshops.
The Program Manager works closely with and reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for management and administration of The Cabin’s education programs (WITS, Cabin Writing Camps, Writer in Residence at the Library!, and other adult classes and workshops). The Program Manager oversees the education volunteer and intern programs and collaborates with the development team to gather information for grants. As a member of The Cabin’s staff, other duties may be assigned to fulfill The Cabin’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Program Manager must possess superior organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, knowledge of the literary scene, an ability to work with a wide variety of constituents, and a passion for The Cabin’s mission.
Writers in the Schools (WITS)
- Supervise WITS teaching-writers — hire, assign residencies, train and mentor, and evaluate instructor performance.
- Coordinate contracts, schedules, and lesson plans with school administrators and classroom teachers.
- Regularly evaluate programs through online and written surveys as well as meetings with teachers and administrators.
- Oversee the preparation and production of WITS anthologies.
- Plan and implement an anthology release party for each WITS residency and the overall WITS celebration in spring.
- Implement, evaluate, and update WITS pedagogy and curricular goals.
- Manage WITS budget with help of Executive Director and Operations Manager.
Cabin Writing Camps
- Plan and schedule over 40 youth writing camps held June – August.
- Work with Development and Communications Manager to develop a camp marketing strategy including brochures, posters, website, social media, and school district outreach.
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise camp teaching-writers
- Recruit and oversee education interns and camp volunteers.
- Oversee camper registration on website and online sales system (OvationTix).
- Monitor weekly registration numbers, cancelling or adding camps as needed.
- Communicate with parents and assist with any student medical or disciplinary problems.
- Oversee gathering of camper writing from teachers for camp anthologies and manage publication/printing of anthologies.
- Oversee the documentation and evaluation of camps
- Manage camp budget with help of Executive Director and Operations Manager.
- Develop and plan yearly workshop schedule.
- Recruit and supervise workshop teachers.
- Oversee workshop registration on website and online sales system (OvationTix).
- Develop and maintain evaluation system for workshops.
- Work with Development and Communications Manager to advertise workshops.
- Manage Writer in Residence at the Library! at Bown Crossing (recruit writers, gather paperwork, coordinate with Library! staff).
- Work with Development Associate and Executive Director to provide information for grants.
- Lead Board Programming Committee.
- Work with Cabin team to staff events (Readings & Conversations, Gala, etc.)
- Answer phones and greet visitors at The Cabin.
A Perfect Candidate Would Have…
A college degree in a related field
Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing education programs in a nonprofit or school setting
Knowledge of curriculum design and/or teaching experience
Experience hiring and managing staff
Experience in program evaluation
MS Word, Excel, Outlook, WordPress, and database experience
Passion for The Cabin’s mission
Knowledge of local and national literary artists
A sense of humor and an ability to deal with a wide range of constituents
Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and relationship building skills
Compensation and Benefits
Starting Pay $17.55/hr.-$18.03/hr.
