School Description

Located in Boise, Idaho, Foothills School of Arts and Sciences is a Pre-K through Grade 9 independent day school. Since its founding in 1992, Foothills has been committed to providing a progressive learning environment that suits the developmental learning needs of children and adolescents. A project-based program integrated with visual and performing arts helps students develop independent perspectives, academic competencies, social-emotional skills, and a sense of civic responsibility. Annual trips take advantage of Boise’s location in the Intermountain West. Foothills places a high value on maintaining a collegial and collaborative atmosphere among employees. Business Director Position

Foothills School of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time Business Director to begin in December 2018. Candidates should have business and accounting experience. The school seeks a well-rounded Director who can also oversee benefits, student enrollment contracts, insurance, human resources, as well as oversee the facilities of the school. The Director is responsible for selecting and overseeing the school’s vendors for retirement, health and dental coverage, and HRA/FSA accounts, as well as overseeing the annual open enrollment. This position is also responsible for the school’s financial aid. The school seeks candidates who are comfortable working in a non-profit environment including work with a finance committee of a board of trustees.


Specific Responsibilities

The Business Director reports to the head of school. Responsibilities include the following:

  • To use standard accounting and bookkeeping procedures to keep an accurate, continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school and manage the financial operation of the school so that the institution remains financially stable

  • To prepare a monthly report of expenditures and projections for the head of school and the board of trustees

  • To establish a plan and schedule for the preparation of the annual budget that will permit the setting of the succeeding year’s tuition

  • To oversee an annual audit of the school’s financial records and financial positions

  • To oversee all school purchasing, financial investments, banking activities, payroll and benefits program

  • To provide support, in conjunction with the head of school, to the finance committee and the board of trustees

  • To manage risk at the school to ensure the safety of personnel and students in their use of the facilities and to maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school

  • To oversee the physical operation of the entire school and its programs

  • To create and oversee the careful maintenance and cleaning programs that keep the school’s appearance in good condition

  • To create and oversee an ongoing equipment replacement program and develop a PPRRSM budget

  • To perform other duties as assigned by the head of school

  • To support the school and its leadership


Desired Professional Background·         

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or related field

  • Experience with accounting and payroll (non-profit preferred)

  • QuickBooks experience

  • Expertise in benefits and human resources

  • Proficiency in operating computer programs such as Excel, Word, G-Suite, Outlook and comfortable with new and customized software
